ISO 14001 in Singapore: Get Up to 70% EDGE Funding

Singapore companies can get up to 70% of the cost of ISO 14001 certification funded through Enterprise Singapore’s EDGE Grant. For many SMEs, that turns a certification they kept postponing into a project that largely pays for itself.
ISO 14001 is increasingly what customers, multinationals and tender panels ask for when they want proof that a supplier manages its environmental impact. This guide explains what the grant covers, who qualifies, how the application and claim work, and the mistakes that most often cost companies their funding.
What is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS). It gives an organisation a framework to set environmental objectives, put the processes in place to meet them, measure progress and keep improving.
In practice, it means you can show customers and regulators a documented, independently audited system for managing issues such as energy use, waste, emissions and compliance with environmental law. It also gives a structured base for wider sustainability reporting later on.
How much does the EDGE Grant cover?
The EDGE Grant supports up to 70% of qualifying costs for SMEs and up to 50% for non-SMEs. Enterprise Singapore aims to give an application outcome within about 10 weeks.
Support level: up to 70% for SMEs, up to 50% for non-SMEs
Annual cap: counts towards your company’s overall EDGE cap of S$100,000 per year
Project period: must be completed within 12 months of approval
Costs covered from: the date of application, once approved

Who is eligible?
Your company qualifies if it meets all four conditions:
It is registered and operating in Singapore
It is at least 30% owned (directly or indirectly) by Singaporeans and/or Singapore PRs, based on ultimate individual ownership
It has not applied for grant support for ISO 14001 before, for any version of the standard
It has not started work or paid any supplier, vendor or third party before submitting the application
You can check your eligibility on BizSG before you start.
How to apply, step by step
The whole process runs through the Business Grants Portal (BGP). Your company must apply itself: third parties, including consultants, cannot apply or manage the grant on your behalf.
Prepare your documents. You will need your consultant’s proposal, quotation and SS 680 certification; the certification body’s quotation and its accreditation certificate; a projection of revenue growth from the project for one year after completion; and a projection of new jobs created (overall and Singaporeans only, with gross monthly salary above S$5,000) for one year after completion.
Choose your consultant. Pick a vendor for the EMS work. The vendor must be SS 680 certified.
Apply on the BGP. Sign in with your company’s Corppass account and submit the application.
Accept your Letter of Offer. If approved, it sets out the grant amount, conditions, project period and deliverables.
Complete the project. Implement the EMS and achieve accredited certification within 12 months. Only two changes can be requested later: the project end date and the claim due date.
Prepare your claim. Set up PayNow Corporate (preferred) or GIRO, pay all project costs in full, and collect proof of payment plus the deliverables: a report on capabilities built and benefits realised, and your accredited ISO 14001 certificate.
Submit your claim on the BGP before the claim due date.
Receive the payment: within 14 working days via PayNow Corporate, or up to eight weeks via GIRO, after the claim is approved.
Common mistakes that cost companies their funding
Starting too early. Signing a contract, paying a deposit or starting work before you submit the application makes the project ineligible.
Choosing a vendor without SS 680 certification. The application requires your consultant’s SS 680 certificate.
Using an unaccredited certification body. The certificate must come from a body accredited by SAC or under ILAC, IAF or APAC mutual recognition.
Budgeting for the full certification cycle. Only first-year certification is supported; surveillance and renewal audits are yours to fund.
Unpaid invoices at claim time. Every project expense must be paid in full before you submit your claim.
Losing eligibility mid-project. The eligibility criteria apply until the claim is submitted, so changes in ownership can affect your payout.
